Do the Next Right Thing

Last night my mom and I finally made it to go see Frozen II. A major theme of the movie was, “Do the next right thing.” At one point, Anna is in crisis as she believes she has just lost her sister, Elsa, and good friend and lovable snowman, Olaf. She also realizes she must correct a mistake of the past that in turn will destroy her home, Arendelle.   Upon realizing these things, Anna (sung by Kristen Bell) launches into this meaningful solo resolving to do the next right thing. The next thing I knew, there I was, sitting in the theater as an adult woman watching a Disney movie, getting choked up at the words of a song because it was perfectly describing what I felt facing my own crisis in the past year. This song had insightful lines in it such as, “I've seen dark before but not like this. This is cold.

What We Celebrate on Christmas

I have probably heard hope, love, joy, and peace talked about every year during advent for about as long as I can remember. And yet as 2019, what has easily been the worst year of my life, comes to a close, those are no longer just Christmas themes, they are life themes. Something different stood out to me as this familiar passage was read during our Christmas Eve service last night, “And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.
